Surf 1 Stand Up Paddleboard Instructor Trainer

This mentorship process provides national certification in the instruction and administration of the Paddle Canada Surf 1 Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Instructor course.

Mandate of the Surf 1 SUP Instructor Trainer

The Surf 1 SUP Instructor Trainer (IT) is certified to:

  • conduct the following Paddle Canada SUP Instructor courses and certify Instructors at these levels: Flatwater 1, Flatwater 2, and Surf 1, and
  • mentor Paddle Canada IT Candidates at the Flatwater 1SUP or Flatwater 2 SUP levels.

Certification Awarded

Paddle Canada Surf 1Stand Up Paddleboard Instructor Trainer.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites must be completed before the assessment process. The Surf 1SUP Instructor Trainer Candidate must have:

Age

At least 18 years of age.

Membership

Current Paddle Canada membership and Provincial/Territory membership.

Skills Certification

Successful completion of Surf 2 SUP Skills course.

Instructor Certification

Successful completion of Surf 2 SUP Instructor course.

Instructor Trainer Certification

Successful completion of general Paddle Canada instructor trainer requirements.

Successful completion of Flatwater 2 SUP Instructor Trainer mentorship.

Teaching Experience

Taught 3 or more Surf 1 SUP skill courses with at least 3 participants in each course.

Instructor Trainer Experience

Taught 4 or more SUP Instructor courses, with at least 3 candidates in each course, including two or more Flatwater 2 Instructor courses.

Minimum Staff and Certification

A Surf 2 SUP IT is required to assess a Surf 1 SUP IT Candidate.

The IT Candidate can work with the same instructor trainer on both courses.

Environmental Conditions

Mentorships must be held in the Surf 1 SUP Skills course appropriate locations.

Candidate Assessment

Assessment is ongoing throughout the mentorship process. The IT Candidate must assist on at least two Surf 1 SUP Instructor courses. After each course, the IT Mentor will promptly submit an online evaluation form. If more than one instructor trainer is involved with the assessment, they will each submit an online evaluation.
