Waterfront Kayak Instructor Trainer

This process provides national certification in the instruction and administration of the Paddle Canada Waterfront Kayak Instructor course.

Mandate of the Waterfront Kayak Instructor Trainer

The Waterfront Kayak Instructor Trainer is certified to conduct the Paddle Canada Waterfront Kayak Instructor course and certify instructors at that level.

Course Details

Prerequisites

All prerequisites must be completed before the development process begins.

Age

At least 18 years of age

Membership

Current Paddle Canada membership and Provincial/Territorial membership (where required).

Skills Certification

Paddle Canada Level-1 Skills.

Instructor Certification

Paddle Canada Basic Kayak Instructor.

Teaching Experience

A minimum of two or more Basic Kayak Skills courses within the past three years, being the lead instructor on at least two of those courses.

Online Training

Completion of the Paddle Canada Instructor Trainer Online Training module.

Minimum Mentorship Length

The Instructor Trainer Candidate must apprentice on a minimum of two Waterfront Kayak Instructor courses. The candidate can work with the same Instructor Trainer mentor on both courses.

Minimum Staff and Certification

One Basic Kayak Instructor Trainer is required to assess a Waterfront Kayak Instructor Trainer candidate.

Class Ratio

1 Instructor Trainer:1 candidate

Course Location

Appropriate to a Waterfront Kayak skills course.

Environmental Conditions and Sea State

Environmental conditions must match those outlined in the Waterfront Kayak Skills course syllabus.
