Sea Kayak Level-3 Instructor Trainer
This process provides national certification in the instruction and administration of the Paddle Canada Level-3 Instructor course.
Mandate of the Level-3 Instructor Trainer
The Level-3 Instructor Trainer is certified to:
- conduct Paddle Canada Level-2, Level-1, Basic Kayak, Rolling and Waterfront Kayak Instructor courses and certify instructors at those levels,
- mentor and assess Paddle Canada Level-4 and Level-3 Instructor candidatesand certify instructors at those levels, and
- mentor and assess Paddle Canada Level-3, Level-2, Level-1, Basic Kayak Instructor Trainer Candidates and certify instructor trainers at those levels.
Course Details
Prerequisites
All prerequisites must be completed before the development process begins.
Age
At least 18 years of age.
Membership
Current Paddle Canada membership and Provincial/Territorial membership (where required).
Skills Certification
Paddle Canada Level-4 Skills.
Instructor Certification
Paddle Canada Level-4 Instructor.
Instructor Trainer Certification
Paddle Canada Level-2 Instructor Trainer.
Teaching Experience
Taught two or more Level-4 Skills courses within the past six years, being the lead instructor on at least one of those courses.
Instructor Trainer Experience
Taught, as a lead instructor, a minimum of one Level-2 Instructor course. The course must have at least three candidates.
Online Training
Completion of the Paddle Canada Instructor Trainer Online Training module.

Certification Process
With the implementation of the Instructor Trainer Transfer process, all Level-2 Instructor Trainers can apply to become a Level-3 Instructor Trainer once all the Level-3 Instructor Trainer prerequisites have been completed. Please refer to the Instructor Trainer Development Manual for directions on how to complete the IT Transfer process.
