Sea Kayak Level-2 Instructor Trainer

This mentorship provides national certification in the instruction and administration of the Paddle Canada Level-2 Instructor course.

Mandate of the Level-2 Instructor Trainer

The Level-2 Instructor Trainer is certified to:

  • conduct Paddle Canada Level-2 Instructor, Level-1 Instructor, Basic Kayak, Rolling and Waterfront Kayak Instructor courses and certify instructors at those levels,
  • mentor a Paddle Canada Level-3 Instructor Candidate and certify at that level, and
  • mentor and assess Paddle Canada Waterfront, Basic Kayak, Level-1, and Kayak Rolling Instructor Trainer Candidates and certify instructor trainers at those levels.

Course Details

Prerequisites

All prerequisites must be completed before the development process begins.

Age

At least 18 years of age.

Membership

Current Paddle Canada membership and Provincial/Territorial membership (where required).

Skills Certification

Paddle Canada Level-4 Skills.

Instructor Certification

Paddle Canada Level-3 Instructor.

Teaching Experience

Taught a minimum of four Level-2 Skills courses within the past six years, being the lead instructor on at least two of those courses.

Instructor Trainer Certification

Paddle Canada Level-1 Instructor Trainer.

Instructor Trainer Experience

Taught a minimum of two, Level-1 Instructor courses in the past four years, being the lead instructor on one. All courses must have at least three candidates in each, each with the required prerequisites completed.

Online Training

Completion of the Paddle Canada Instructor Trainer Online Training module.

Minimum Mentorship Length

The Instructor Trainer Candidate (ITC) must mentor on at least two Level-2 Instructor courses.

Minimum Staff and Certification

Two, Level-2 Instructor Trainers are required to assess a Level-2 Instructor Trainer Candidate.

In the case that only one mentor is registered on the Level-2 Instructor course, the second mentor can be a Level-2 IT with whom the apprentice has worked on a Level-2 Instructor or Level-3 Skills, or Level-4 Skills course.

Course Location

Appropriate to a Level-2 Skills course.

Environmental Conditions and Sea State

Environmental conditions must match those outlined in the Level-2 Skills course syllabus.
