Moving Water Canoe Advanced Tandem and Solo Instructor Trainer
This mentorship process provides national certification in the instruction and administration of the Moving Water Canoe Advanced Tandem and Solo Instructor Trainer course.
Mandate of the Moving Water Canoe Advanced Tandem and Solo Instructor Trainer
The mandate of the Moving Water Canoe Advanced Tandem and Solo Instructor Trainer is to:
- conduct Paddle Canada Moving Water Tandem canoe instructor courses up to the Advanced Moving Water Tandem and to certify paddlers at that level, and
- mentor and assess Paddle Canada Basic, Introduction, Intermediate and Advanced Instructor Trainer Candidates and certify instructor trainers at those levels.
Prerequisites
Prerequisites must be completed before the development process begins. The Instructor Trainer candidate must have the following:
Age
At least 18 years of age.
Membership
Current Paddle Canada membership and Provincial/Territory membership.
Skills Certification
Advanced Moving Water Tandem or Solo Skills.
Instructor Certification
Advanced Moving Water Tandem Instructor or Advanced Moving Water Solo Instructor.
Instructor Trainer Certification
Successful completion of general Paddle Canada Instructor Trainer requirements.
Intermediate Moving Water Tandem or Solo Canoe Instructor Trainer.
Online Training
Completion of the Paddle Canada Instructor Trainer Online Training module.
Teaching Experience
Option 1)
Taught at least 1 Advanced Moving Water Tandem skills courses with at least 3 participants within the last 4 years and taught at least 1 Intermediate Moving Water Tandem Instructor course.
Option 2)
Taught 1 Advanced Moving Water Solo skills courses with at least 3 participants within the last 4 years and taught at least 1 Intermediate Moving Water Solo Instructor course.
Certification Awarded
Paddle Canada Advanced Moving Water Tandem or Solo Instructor Trainer.
Minimum Staff and Certification
One Paddle Canada Advanced Moving Water Canoe Tandem Instructor Trainer for tandem courses.
One Paddle Canada Advanced Moving Water Canoe Solo Instructor Trainer for solo courses.
Environmental Conditions
Class III with some Class II features
- Rapids with moderate, irregular waves which may be difficult to avoid and capable of swamping an open canoe
- Complex manoeuvres in fast current and narrow passages requiring good boat control frequently exist
- Large waves, holes and strainers may be present but are easily avoided
- Strong eddies and powerful current effects can be found, particularly on large-volume rivers
- Scouting is advisable for inexperienced parties
- Chances of injury while swimming is low, but group assistance may be required to avoid long swims
